To cope with harsh sea conditions and high-pressure environments, multiple companies have improved the sealing performance and structural strength of hatch covers through patented innovations.
High sealing design: Jiangsu Hantong Shipbuilding Heavy Industry obtained a patent for "high sealing electric hatch cover for bulk cargo ships" in April 2026. This technology lifts the cover plate upwards before it rotates, avoiding friction and deformation between the sealing ring and the hatch during the opening and closing process, effectively protecting the sealing ring and improving its sealing performance during closure.
Adverse sea conditions protection: Jiangsu Hantong Yingji Heavy Industry obtained the patent for "induction type hatch cover for bulk carriers" in March 2026. This design uses relatively movable sealing rings and adjustable structures to better adapt to ship deformation and prevent seawater or rainwater from infiltrating the cargo hold in harsh sea conditions.
High pressure resistant sealing structure: A patent for hatch cover components was disclosed in November 2025, proposing a new type of sealing structure. This structure can achieve the effect of "tightening with increasing pressure" in high-pressure environments, and there is no leakage in the 18.75MPa pressure test, solving the problem of traditional sealing rings being easily crushed and failed under high pressure.
Enhanced compressive strength: Jiangsu Yangtze Marine Equipment obtained the patent for "ship hatch cover reinforcement compressive device" in January 2026. The device significantly enhances the connection strength and overall compressive strength between the hatch and the cabin body by installing reinforcement and compression components around the hatch and at the top.
